Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Crater is a stunningly gorgeous environment and Tanzania’s greatest place to watch the Big Five. The Ngorongoro Crater, as one of the world’s most amazing and well-known natural wonders, does, however, get busy, and at times very busy. We recommend a two-night stay here due to the crowds, then moving on to the Serengeti for a more calm and private safari experience.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a must-see on any vacation to Northern Tanzania: it is one of the world’s most spectacular natural wildlife safari locations and an excellent area to engage with the Masaai people.

Together, the Ngorongoro Crater and its surrounding mountains comprise one of Africa’s most stunning landscapes.

Volcanic craters provide a magnificent backdrop to some of Africa’s most fertile and abundant grazing lands. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s biggest intact volcanic caldera and home to Africa’s highest density of big game, including all five of the big five and plenty of predators, is without a doubt the most famous of these craters. The Ngorongoro Crater is unquestionably one of Africa’s most well-known safari locations.

The decision is between staying at a hotel on the rim of the Crater for the spectacular views, or staying in nearby Karatu. The relative lack of crowds, as well as better-value, smaller and more intimate hotels that provide a variety of activities such as walking and mountain biking, are all advantages of Karatu.
